An eco-conscious resort, spa, and residential community will soon be coming to a beautiful stretch of the South Carolina shores, including Hilton Head Island, Daufuskie Island, and Bay Point Island.
Opening in 2026 and spanning multiple coastal locations, Six Senses South Carolina Islands will be conveniently located just a short distance from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. The hotel management agreement was recently signed by Timothy Pitcher, President of Whitestone, along with partner Redrock Portfolio, Inc., and Six Senses Chief Executive Officer Neil Jacobs and Chief Development Officer Omar Romero, marking the next chapter in a working partnership extending several years.
Voted America’s Favorite Island for the seventh year running in the 2023 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, Hilton Head Island is known for its small-town charm, tidal creeks, white-sand beaches, and protected wildlife. This will serve as the main welcome hub and entry point to the resort and residences, offering a bespoke restaurant and retail outlet. As a gateway to life on the water, it will also serve as a convenient embarkation point for Six Senses guests and residents to hop aboard a hybrid yacht or electric boat to begin their adventure with a ride on the beautiful Intercoastal Waterway.
With its environmental focus, remote shores, and eclectic culture, Daufuskie is the southernmost inhabited sea island in South Carolina. The ethos of the 460-acre Six Senses South Carolina Islands is regeneration, which is central to the masterplan for the guest rooms and private suites, as well as the cottages dotted along the beachfront and the maritime forest.
The all-day restaurant will be joined by a specialty eatery and bar, beach club, pool grill, and pop-up programming. Cuisine will showcase the best of the region, focusing on seasonal and local food.
Along with water sports, sailing, and fishing, adventures continue on land to encompass Daufuskie’s culture, including studios to showcase local artistry. Beyond the resort, guests can enjoy the campus’s integrated farm and championship golf course, with highlights including heritage livestock and equine therapy.
Six Senses Spa will take guests on a journey of discovery in the pursuit of well-being as part of an integrative wellness focus. Programming will include yoga, meditation, mindfulness, Visiting Practitioners, and a personalized longevity approach that fuses scientific advances with ancient wisdom worth remembering.
Because well-being extends to hosts, village homes are also being constructed on Daufuskie Island. The new units will be integrated to provide quality residential housing and community amenities for hosts and islanders.
As a dedicated and unrelenting steward of the environment, Whitestone has built its reputation on its eco-credentials and has upheld a decades-long pledge to maintaining this pristine, one-of-a-kind island. It’s through these efforts that Six Senses has come on board to support a small community of like-minded, environmentally forward homeowners committed to preserving the island’s unique ecosystems for generations to come.
With its “Southern Island Coastal” inspiration, the modular, category-5 hurricane-resilient, biophilic, and self-contained branded residential villas of Bay Point Island will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure and waste handling, renewable energy, reverse-osmosis water supply, and helical piling to limit soil disruption and lighten their footprint. The villas will be a year-round home-away-from-home, whether gathering on the porch to enjoy the breeze or spending afternoons sun-soaked and sandy. A limited number will be available for sale in 2024.
Celebrating the partnership, Timothy Pitcher, President of Whitestone, commented, “Whitestone strives to nurture and celebrate the critical connection between the human experience and the ecosystems that sustain us. The thrill of innovation resonates in every thought and design as we weave a canvas that intertwines regenerative luxury with the roots of our existence. This project is a celebration of Six Senses and Whitestone’s shared vision to seamlessly blend integrated wellness with the untamed beauty of the natural world, redefine living spaces with a commitment to ecological mindfulness, quite literally sowing the seeds of a new era."
“After a few years in the making, we’re delighted and excited to be partnering with Whitestone and Redrock in the creation of two special connected communities that speak to the beauty of their environments and honor the people and culture of the area,” said Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs. “We have the right elements and energy in place to marry these incredible coastal landscapes with a wellness and sustainability formula that rewilds people back to a connection with nature, each other, and ultimately themselves.”
