Best mountain and forest resorts for green

June 20, 2022 - Before humans turned the world gray, our ancestors resided in green. It is scientifically known to have healing effects on the mind and body and is associated with rebirth and renewal. So why not surround yourself in a panorama of green at Six Senses?

There may be no WiFi in the forests, but there is a connection and being close to nature is a magical experience. Trees release phytoncides, which lower stress hormones. Take your sensory awareness to the next level as you spend time in nature to improve your well-being and longevity. Being in the moment allows you to take in the full beauty of the natural world; its sounds, textures, and aromas.

Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain, the picturesque gateway to the eponymous mountain

Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain is located right at the picturesque gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage site in nearby Dujiangyan, China. Whether meeting the pandas, exploring ancient Chinese towns, or hiking the mystical mountain, there’s something for everyone.

One of the best places to spot giant pandas in the wild is the Nature Reserve of Wolong. You’ll meet local Tibetans, visit a tree nursery and habitat restoration site, and climb up a mountain range to glimpse them going about their daily lives.

Get even closer to these magnificent black-and-white animals by spending a morning at the Wolong Panda Reserve, helping the keepers make panda cakes and clean their houses. Meet their mini, redder cousins at the Red Panda Base and see how much they love desserts. We can’t blame them!

Go on a Back Mountain Adventure on the verdant trails of the Back Mountain, flourishing with flora and fauna. Wind your way through the mystical mountains and visit the White Cloud Temple.

Six Senses Bhutan is committed to preserving and protecting the world’s only carbon-negative country

A landlocked Himalayan Kingdom, Bhutan is rich in culture, tradition, and spirituality that have been carefully guarded and preserved. Six Senses Bhutan comprises five lodges, positioned like gems throughout the country.

Our very own Palace in the Sky, Six Senses Bhutan Thimpu, is situated within apple orchards and pine forests, perched on a hillside at 7,710 feet, surrounded by the richly forested mountains. An hour’s hike takes you to the Talakha Monastery, where you can plant a tree or wander through the apple orchards for Afternoon Tea and Archery. Enjoy Nimnub Sunset Cocktails at the edge of Nimnub point, where you face Paro at sunset to see the sun rest between the peaks.

The beautiful Six Senses Bhutan Punakha is inspired by the valley’s farmhouse architecture. Across the valley and through its lush rice fields sits the Chorten Ningpo Monastery, where guests are invited to spend the morning. Share your walk with the local children on their way to school and arrive above the clouds in time for a traditional vegetarian breakfast with the monastery’s resident monks. Or sip pomegranate cocktails as you enjoy the awe-inspiring Punakha Dzong across the river. Experience the thrill of walking across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan before heading back to the lodge.

Six Senses Bhutan Paro is known as the Stone Ruins. Embraced by pine forests, this lodge sits high above the valley floor. Start the day with Sunrise Hike to Tiger’s Nest, a mesmerizing cliffside monastery. Or hike to Jele Dzong through the pristine forest traversed by yak herders. Join a mushroom foraging expedition in the forests.

Six Senses Bhutan Gangtey is located in the Phobjikha Valley, which also serves as the winter residence of the rare, black-necked cranes, who come home to roost here every October. You can check out the Conservation Center nearby to learn more about these majestic birds or see them in action from the lodge’s own Birdwatching Bridge, a central gathering point for lounging and dining.

Aptly referred to as “A Forest Within a Forest”, Six Senses Bhutan Bumthang is set in a pine forest above a babbling stream. This region is known for its four valleys, covered in pristine forests and meandering rivers, dotted with quaint villages and lush pastures, and considered by many as Bhutan’s spiritual heartland.

Experience Alpine sophistication at Six Senses Crans-Montana, Switzerland

Wake up to breathtaking views over the iconic peaks including Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Go on an adventure in a natural playground or enjoy the vibrant village life just steps away. End the day under a blanket of stars and cozy up with your loved ones.

Switzerland is revered the world over as a winter wonderland. However, Six Senses Crans-Montana also proposes summer spectacles with its surrounding forests, lakes, and glaciers. High-altitude mountains lead down to vineyards lining the floor of the Rhone valley.

Golfers from around the world are enticed by the numerous courses, including the famous Severiano Ballesteros 18-hole and Jack Nicklaus 9-hole course.

From winter snow sports to summer golf and equestrian pursuits, the marked contrast of the seasons adds personality to a host of experiences that reinvigorate the spirit and awaken all the senses.
