August 21, 2023 - When you’re elevated to new heights, it opens up the possibility to reach even higher in mind, body, and soul. We spoke to Oona Series founders about their carefully curated Women’s Health Retreat in the mountains at Six Senses Crans-Montana.
As wise as it is to remember our own health and wellness needs, it’s somehow easy to let self-care drift. Especially, after a busy summer involving exciting travel, good food, and family commitments. That’s why we’re delighted to introduce our program of retreats, a schedule that taps into the very essence and energy of conscious existence, taking you on a journey of personal transformation at Six Senses Douro Valley, learning how to keep your mind sharp and clear for life at Six Senses Kaplankaya, diving into energy healing and mindful movement at Six Senses Ibiza, and embarking on an adventure of learning, curiosity, and connection at Six Senses Crans-Montana.
Led by Oona Series founders Catie Miller and Boniface Verney Carron and joined by Dr. Federica Amati, our first Women’s Health Retreat promises to help anybody of any age learn more about women’s hormones and biology. Covering body fluctuations and changes, hormones and gut health, fertility, pregnancy, and healthy aging after menopause, this retreat takes a deep dive into a subject that both women and men can benefit from learning more about. It’s perfectly okay to come alone or as a couple; you’ll certainly leave with friends.
Catie’s enthusiasm is infectious: “I’m hugely excited to be involved with Six Senses. The team’s commitment and ethos really resonate with the way we run our retreats, and when I set foot in Six Senses Crans-Montana, the inspiring proximity of the mountains and nature simply took my breath away. Embracing nature is not just possible here; it’s impossible not to fall under its spell.”
Aretha Franklin’s immortal words can often mean “doing it for everyone else” too. That’s why our retreat program is here to help you plan ahead and carve out some “me time” this upcoming season. September is a richly rewarding time of year to retreat, more so than January, with its overwhelming focus on self-improvement. As Dr. Amati says: “You’re already wonderful, have you checked in on yourself?”
Your trio of hosts is a dream team of well-being experts offering a holistic package that combines a program of movement and adventure with enough time and space for self-reflection and deep contemplation. You’ll begin and end each day with morning and sunset movement sessions with Catie, take part in masterclasses with Boniface, an expert in integrated osteopathy and acupuncture, and join masterclasses with Dr. Amati, who specializes in achieving optimal nutrition with an evidence-based, personalized approach. You’ll also get a sneak peek at her brand new book, 'Recipes for a Better Menopause', ahead of publication day in October 2023, which coincides with World Menopause Month.
As Dr. Amati tells us: “We know from a growing body of research, and new data is continually emerging, that the promotion of optimum women’s health bolsters healthier lives, stronger communities, and thriving environments for all, not only for future generations but for each person that comes into each woman’s orbit.”
Carefully curated to enhance, encourage, and support an open-hearted curiosity within an intimate group setting, the three-day schedule encompasses a health-giving balance of introspection and outdoor adventure, all in a stunning mountain setting. Don’t be surprised to find yourself plunging into an icy glacier stream, walking barefoot through the mountains, and communing with trees during a forest bathing activity. In the safe space created by your hosts and within the group dynamic, you’ll find it easy to face your vulnerabilities and tap into new dimensions of being on a deeper and more profound level.
Faced with an overwhelming amount of data, it’s not always easy to navigate the best route, but this retreat is here to give you the tools to make the right choices for you and your body. As Catie says: “Clients are becoming experts at listening to their bodies, which helps them follow their own unique path.”
And as Boniface elaborates: “Our aim is to support our group to really connect with raw nature. We know instinctively what the benefits are, and the science backs us up. Rewilding ourselves supports our neuroplasticity, our nervous-system, and makes a coregulating state possible. With nature’s help, we can better regulate our emotions, soothe our behaviors, and manage internal and external stressors.”
Six Senses Crans-Montana is a natural high-altitude destination with the light and beauty of the mountains to uplift and inspire you. When you’re not taking part in the retreat, you can walk straight into nature, enjoy high-tech biohacking and high-touch therapies at Six Senses Crans-Montana Spa, cozy up under a blanket of stars at the open-air cinema, and be part of a vibrant village life with a rich social scene.
There’s a go-with-it wisdom that emerges after a three-day retreat when you embark on a journey of education and discovery that helps you rethink your attitude toward changes in your daily life, your relationships with the people you love, and equally importantly your relationship with nature. Bottle it all up, take it home with you for life, and pass the keys to understanding to all your precious sisters out there.
