Helping kids gain sustainability knowledge through sustainable travel

During your family vacation, we encourage our younger guests to understand more about what’s going on inside them and in the world around them. Our Grow With Six Senses approach is to learn through natural play.

Although the framework is consistent from one resort to the next, each has its own rich environment and and community to explore. Our crafted experiences provide the perfect opportunity for kids to spend time in nature and nurture an appreciation of the environment that lasts far longer than your vacation.

You can all spend time at our Earth Lab, to learn about upcycling and recycling. Playtime includes joining the gardeners in the resorts’ organic gardens for anything from seed planting to mushroom harvesting.

Other activities can include making kites and flowers with recycled paper, a local farm visit, finding dinosaur fossils, recycled shell crafts, purifying water, candle making and growing seeds in a coconut shell. Snorkeling in the ocean, hiking through mangroves, climbing up trees, visiting pandas in preserves, surfing upon the waves or picking vegetables with our chefs at our on-site farms – there are so many fun opportunities to enjoy the natural world.

For example, activities at Six Senses Krabey Island include a Pagoda Blessing, which is a spiritual encounter with a visit to the Buddhist monks at Ream Pagoda, overlooking a view of the coaster scenery. Children can also visit a local Khmer floating fish farm or try their own luck at hook line an catch, while cruising the scenic bay along Poy Chong Keang at Koh Ta Kiev. If they catch a sustainably sized fish the chefs are happy to cook it to your specifications. Activities at Six Senses Yao Noi include roselle harvesting and flying yoga, while at Six Senses Fiji, opening in April, kids can make their own snacks using a solar oven. Six Senses Laamu has a beautiful garden for salad foraging and offers junior Zumba and healthy cookie making.

Families can also immerse in the local culture through touring historic sites, visiting street markets, learning the traditional dance, teaching English with our hosts in the village or participating in one of our traditional cooking classes!

Each resort has its own comprehensive program, with a full list of Grow With Six Senses activities that can be viewed on the web page of each resort under the EXPERIENCES tab. Visit sixsenses.com, contact the resort directly or call your travel agent to reserve your summer family escape accommodations. Many of the activities are complimentary or have a nominal fee.
