In the practice of Buddhism, cleaning takes on profound significance as a mindfulness exercise, embodying the principle of non-separation from the environment and nurturing a deep respect for and sense of unity with the world. Led by Ryosokuin Temple’s deputy abbot Toryo Ito, guests are encouraged to explore the profound connection between a clear mind and a clean environment through active participation in the cleansing of the temple gardens. This hands-on experience is thoughtfully designed to impart the wisdom that purifying our surroundings also purifies our minds, a concept we hope guests will carry back home with them.
Following this engaging activity, guests will be invited to a private session of meditation. The serene atmosphere of the temple garden provides an ideal backdrop for this introspective practice. Subsequently, guests can unwind and reflect on their experiences while enjoying a calming cup of tea.
