Six Senses Laamu is the only dive resort in the Laamu Atoll so we are virtually guaranteed of having the dive sites to ourselves when we go out, something that is extremely rare for a world-class diving area and almost unheard of for a place with mantas year-round.
Deep Blue Divers is a PADI 5* dive center. Our multilingual team of professional diving instructors teaches PADI courses ranging from Discover Scuba Diving to Divemaster. We teach in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Catalan and Dhivehi. All PADI courses are for adults, with youth aged 10+ and children aged 8+ welcome to participate in our children and youth diving programs.
Diving is a great activity for the whole family. For youngsters aged 8 and 9 who have never dived before, the PADI Bubblemaker program is a safe and fun introduction to diving and can be completed in just a few hours.
For those aged 8 or older who love the water, the PADI Seal Team is an action-packed program where Aquamissions are completed and a certification is issued.
Deep Blue Divers has obtained special permission from PADI to conduct the Seal Team and Bubblemaker programs in the ocean so kids can enjoy the thrills of diving and seeing marine life in a safe and controlled environment.
Youth aged 10+ can participate in the junior version of the adult dive courses described below.
A PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) course is the first step to becoming a diver and is perfect for those who have never experienced diving previously. It consists of a short theory session, a confined water session and an open water dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters / 40 feet. The whole experience only takes about two hours and is a great way to be immersed in the stunning underwater life of Laamu.
The PADI Scuba Diver Course is ideal if you don’t have a lot of time and want to get your first diving certificate. It can be completed in 2-3 days* and includes a certification allowing you to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional to a maximum depth of 12 meters / 40 feet.
*All courses can be shortened significantly by enrolling in PADI e-learning and completing the theory before you arrive at Six Senses Laamu. PADI e-learning is a great way to avoid spending your holiday in the classroom. Finish all the theory online at your own pace from home or in your office and just enjoy the practical in-water sessions while on holiday. After signing up and affiliating with the Deep Blue Divers Dive Centre, you will receive a USD 100 discount on the selected PADI course done with us here at Six Senses Laamu.
The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the most popular scuba diving course. It can be conducted in 3-4 days* and consists of 5 theory and 5 confined water sessions and 4 open water dives. The maximum depth for Open Water Divers is 18m / 60 feet.

Nitrox allows divers to dive for longer at moderate depths and many also report feeling less fatigue when diving with Nitrox. The Nitrox course can be conducted in just a couple of hours* with a theory session, a practical session with an oxygen analyzer and a final exam. No diving is necessary to obtain this certification. Deep Blue Divers offers Nitrox for free for certified Enriched Air / Nitrox divers. Minimum age: 12 years.

To accommodate all divers’ needs, we schedule our dive boats to go out three times a day. Choose the option(s) that suits you best. All our boat dives include a light snack (fruit skewers, pastry, coffee, tea and drinking water).
All dives are a maximum of 60 minutes in duration and the maximum guest to guide ratio is 6:1 but is typically 4:1 or fewer.
8:30 am – 1:30 pm 2-Tank Dive Trip – these trips often do one channel or outer reef dive followed by one inner reef dive. The channel dives are geared towards the more advanced divers, as often these sites are exposed to stronger currents, with the potential reward of seeing more megafauna and bigger schools of fish. For these dives, Advanced Open Water and Nitrox are strongly recommended.
10:30 am – 12:30 pm 1-Tank Dive Trip – these trips are for those who want to sleep in or only want to do one dive and typically take place at a close-by dive site where there are no currents, making for very relaxed, easy dives.
3:00 pm – 5:00 pm 1-Tank Dive Trip – these trips are for those who only want to do one dive, or a second or third dive of the day and usually take place at a close by dive site where there are no currents, making for very relaxed, easy dives.
All certified divers must show proof of certification. This is required to participate in fun diving activities. If you forget to bring your certification card we will do our best to try to find your certification online. However, the onus is on the diver to provide proof of certification and inability to do so will result in not being able to dive as a certified diver and pre-booked dives will not be refunded.
6:30 am – 8:30 am Early Morning Dive – Early morning dives are a great way to start the day! Enjoy a leisurely breakfast after your dive.
9:00 am – 3:00 pm Full Day 2-Tank Dive Trip to 2 Channels – these trips go out to two channels and are geared towards more advanced divers. Advanced certification and Nitrox are strongly recommended. For two-channel trips, a light lunch is provided on the boat (or beach if possible) and there is a surcharge of USD 65 per guest.
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Night Dive – Night dives are great in Laamu. We go out on inner reefs where there is no current and also do night dives on our house reef where no boat rides are necessary. See for yourself what changes on the reef at night!
7:30 pm – 9:30 pm Blackwater Dive – Blackwater dives are for divers who love the weird and wonderful. We attract fascinating and rare critters such as juvenile fish, pygmy squids and more with very bright lights attached to a drift line. A must-do if you’re looking for something new and unusual in diving.
Manta rays are known as the gentle giants of the ocean and here at Six Senses Laamu, although sightings are not guaranteed, we are lucky enough to be able to encounter them year-round. Join the Manta Trust and Deep Blue Divers to explore our local manta point, Hithadhoo Corner and dive with the manta rays of Laamu. Each of the manta rays has a unique spot pattern on their belly which allows them to be individually identified. Before the dive, a researcher from the Manta Trust will give a briefing on how to take the perfect ID shot, how to interact with manta rays, provide insight into the research being carried out and answer any manta-related questions you may have. After returning to the resort you will be emailed a Manta Memo including photos and information about the manta rays encountered on your dive. This exciting dive is suitable for confident, certified divers, however due to the strong currents which are sometimes encountered at this site, a prior dive must be completed with Deep Blue Divers at a less challenging site. Ask us about getting your PADI Maldivian Manta Ray Specialty Certification, which can be done as a specialty or can be a part of the PADI Advanced Open Water Course.
Have you ever tried scuba diving with a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV)? Deep Blue Divers has state of the art, powerful and hands-free DPVs which are guaranteed to thrill and ramp up the adventurer spirit in you. You’ll feel like you’re flying underwater and can also explore a larger area of the dive site while eliminating the need to kick. A must-try for certified divers looking for a brilliant adventure.
Fluoro night diving: we also offer an extraordinary night dive with UV lights and yellow filters – see the underwater world in a completely different light.
We have top-of-the-line dive equipment available for your use. Dive computer, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins, tanks (including complimentary Nitrox for Nitrox-certified divers), weights and boat rides are included in the diving price for both courses and fun dives. 15-litre / 100-cu.ft tanks are also available for a surcharge.
Please note that our wetsuits are 3 milliliter shorties and our fins are full foot fins. If you prefer different equipment please bring your own.
We have different kinds of boats available for diving, from spacious traditional dive dhonies to smaller speedboats. Our boats are fast, comfortable, safe and will get you to the best dive sites in style.
This is an important question for every diver or prospective diver and of course we hope you will come and dive with Deep Blue Divers and share some of the amazing dive experiences possible at Six Senses Laamu. The RSTC Medical Form is not a substitute for a medical check-up, but will usually indicate if you should have a medical check-up and if you will need a “Fit To Dive” certificate from a doctor to dive.
Please kindly email our team at mgr-diving@sixsenses.com to receive the updated RSTC medical form well in advance of your arrival at the resort. If you need a 'Fit To Dive' certificate from a doctor, please ensure it is completed prior to your arrival. Note that the certificate should not contain any restrictions or limitations, as these may invalidate it.
