Six Senses Residences Courchevel
Courchevel is a seasonal destination, open for winter sporting activities from December through to the end of April.
The first snow fall of the season is usually in December with the Christmas and New Year period being especially popular. Families will find the snow at Christmastime to be magical plus there are lots of walks and activities for non-skiers.
With some people having returned to work or school, January is a joy as the pistes are less crowded and the lift queues are shorter. The weather can be very cold but the snow conditions are excellent, often accompanied with blue skies and sunshine.
French school vacations start this month so expect a busy month. If you are looking for a ski school for children, you'll need to book well in advance. And be prepared to share your ski experience with youngsters.
With the days becoming longer and the temperature milder, you'll find that lunching alfresco is quite enjoyable, especially in the sun. Snow will be freshened up by the occasional Spring snowfall and the crowds will have eased off somewhat.
Have an end of season fling with warmer temperatures. The weather is mostly fine and perfect for morning skiing on quiet pistes followed by extended lunches under the sun. This is also all a good time to do some end-of-season shopping.
