Rome off the beaten path

At Six Senses Rome, elevate your springtime stay by discovering off-the-beaten-path places to enjoy small rituals, private art tours, and the creamiest gelato in town.

Tour of the Senses

Your Guest Experience Maker can also recommend all the small, off-the-beaten-path little rituals enjoyed by the Rome locals. Once home, these will become the best memories of your stay in Rome. We believe it’s all these simple moments contrasted with the grandiose beauty of the city that make it so wonderful. Our authentic and sensual Tour of the Senses experience is the brainchild of General Manager Francesca Tozzi. With Rome being her home city, she is working with her team to translate the brand’s core values of emotional hospitality, sustainability, and wellness into a Roman context. She’s understandably a little busy but when she does get a moment, what are some of her favorite things to do?

“One of my favorite spots is Parco della Caffarella on the Via Ardeatina side. This is a peaceful and iconic corner of the park, which I link to very personal and lovely memories. I enjoy walking my beloved Beagle Neo by the untrodden paths and have a well-deserved break by the Ninfeo, an archaeological site from the third century built by the local spring,” says Francesca. “I have a sweet-, or better said, chocolate-tooth so if I am in San Lorenzo area, I can’t say no to SAID Chocolate Factory and indulge in their homemade chocolate. It is the best in Rome! Or I head to Fassi, a must-go bottega for mouth-watering ice creams and other cold, creamy specialties like sanpietrini, semifreddo, and cassatine.”

Follow Caravaggio’s Footsteps

Arguably the most influential artist of his time, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio found his second home here in Rome. When you stay with us, you can learn more about this rebel genius and challenge your artistic skills by following his footsteps and then becoming an artist for the day with our "Catching the Light" painting class. Immersed in a scenic spot of Rome, enjoy one-on-one instruction and tips by an expert art connoisseur and create your own masterpiece to take home as a souvenir. Alternatively, get involved in restoration of historical paintings, including some beautiful works of Caravaggio in our “Layers of Life” studio experience with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of one of the most important Restoration Studios in the heart of Rome.

Roman Bathhouse with a Six Senses touch

In Roman times, the bathhouse was a place to meet and connect with people. Our modern-day take on the beautiful and beneficial Roman thermae journey in our Six Senses Spa is a perfect way to end a busy day sightseeing in Rome and boost well-being by warming the body up and then cooling it down.

The Tepidarium is a Roman bath with a heated wall and benches for reclining on while listening to water trickling through the fountain: we have not one but two for you to enjoy. From there, head to the Laconicum sauna and then to the Calidarium, our version of the Roman steam bath. By now, you’ll be feeling very relaxed but very hot, so the next step is to embrace the Ice Fountain, rubbing the ice from your heart outwards.

From there, ease into a heated pool to prepare yourself for your Wim Hof moment: the Frigidarium! Slow your breath, focus your mind, and pretend you’re with Wim in a frozen lake somewhere (you get the idea). Some people plunge in and immediately make a sharp exit, while others wade in heroically for a minute or two. Your skin, circulation, and immune system will love you for it. Over time, it does wonders for the mind too. Rebalance with a warm shower, then soak up the good vibes in our relaxation loungers, warmed to 27 degrees Celsius.

Meet and Eat

One thing’s for sure in Rome: you’ll end the day hungry. So why not end on a high note at the top of our Palazzo at NOTOS Rooftop? It will specialize in tempting bites and creative sips, surrounded by unparalleled 360-degree panoramic views. The abundance of terracotta pots and aromatic plants offer a secret garden escape unlike anywhere in Rome.
